Clubs & Activities
Being in Saddleworth, the heart of brass band country, Diggle School has a great heritage in making music. We were very pleased to be awarded the Music Mark in 2020/21 in recognition of our commitment to providing a high-quality music education for all children and young people. We encourage a wide variety of music making throughout the school both in and outside of the classroom. We partner with the Oldham Music Service, who deliver small group lessons and ensembles such as brass band and orchestra, and who support all children in Year 3 learn a brass instrument as part of their curriculum. We also have 2 choirs and all children participate in a production with their class each year.

P.E & Wellbeing
Diggle School is proud to hold a Gold School Sports Mark Award. We understand the importance of keeping active, both for physical and mental well being. We acknowledge that across the school, children have different levels of interest and engagement in sport in the traditional sense, so at Diggle School we encourage all of our children to enjoy being active. All our classes operate an Active Classroom, where tools such as GoNoodle and the Daily Mile are used throughout the day to help children get the most out of their learning. We also encourage those with an interest in a particular sport to develop their skills through after school sports clubs, and participate in inter school competition.
We are very pleased to welcome the sports coaches from City in the Community who come into school once a week to provide expert physical education teaching. Additionally, some of our Key Stage 2 children have enjoyed robot building and programming through the City in the Community team.
The amazing fundraising of our FODS team have enabled us to fund a 4-year programme of Commando Joe’s, which is a curated treasure trove of practical and physical hands-on activities to develop teamwork and resilience, which fit very well to support the school’s 6 R’s scheme.
The Outdoor Classroom
Wellies are an integral part of the uniform at Diggle School. We are fortunate to have extensive grounds to the rear of the school, and we do our best to make the most of them. All children enjoy learning in our Forest School area. Children develop their teamwork and communication skills to overcome problems or to create and build outdoor projects, often linked to the class topics. The Forest School programme directly supports our 6R’s, especially encouraging resilience, respect and resourcefulness. We also have a forest school dog called Chêne, who is great at helping children who are a maybe a little reluctant to be in the outdoor environment to relax and join in.
Out of School Activities
Our extra-curricular activities are a combination of sport, art & craft, music, games and general movement and have something for each year group. The activities run before school, during lunchtime and after school, and change each term. The list of extra-curricular activities will be sent to parents via Parentpay at the beginning of each term.
