Welcome to Diggle School Nursery

At Diggle School, our whole school ethos is about developing the ‘whole child’ and we believe that every child deserves an education enriched with memorable experiences, which nurtures their natural creativity and curiosity, while also fostering the purposeful acquisition of skills and knowledge. We are convinced that such an education equips children to become well-rounded, happy individuals ready to thrive in an ever-changing world.

In Early Years ,there are seven areas of learning and development:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

  • Physical Development

  • Communication & Language

  • Mathematics

  • Literacy

  • Understanding the World

  • Expressive Arts & Design

All of these areas are incorporated through planned, purposeful play, blending both adult-led and child-initiated activities. This approach ensures that children experience the 'awe and wonder' that fully engages them in their learning journey. Play is essential for children's development, as it builds their confidence, encourages exploration, problem-solving, and fosters social connections.

Our curriculum, especially in our nursery, emphasises the prime areas of learning. We focus on helping children develop essential skills, knowledge, self-regulation, and positive attitudes, both within our setting and beyond. We plan and implement our curriculum using a cross-curricular topic approach centred around books. We incorporate as many real-life experiences as possible, providing hands-on, experiential learning opportunities.

Child-initiated learning is a priority, and we strive to respond to the children's interests, while exposing them to new information and learning. From the moment children enter the EYFS at Diggle School, whether they are 3, 4, or 5 years old, we as a team aim to provide children with a strong foundation, ensuring they continue to enjoy lifelong learning at Diggle School and beyond.
